Save the date and get ready to indulge because World Whisky Day is just around the corner. This year, come May 15th marks the tenth anniversary of the momentous occasion, bringing together people from all over the world to celebrate the water of life.
Held annually on the third Saturday in May, World Whisky Day invites everyone, no matter where they are in the world, to get together and raise a toast to the glorious golden liquor. Commemorated through tastings, events and gatherings, the event marks an occasion to come together for a bit of Old Fashioned fun (pun intended).
Here at Drinks With Dave we will be hosting an online whisky tasting as a way to connect with other like-minded enthusiasts, expand our knowledge and sip on some different quality whisky types. Our event will be led by the best in the business. Professionals who will guide you through the tastings and educate you so you too can be a whisky expert in no time. Did we mention this occurs all whilst in the comfort of your own home?
Partake in the online conversation with whisky connoisseurs from around the world on social media using the hashtag #WorldWhiskyDay and share photos of your favourite bottles and cocktails. Feeling stuck and in need of some inspiration ahead of the big day? There are two of our favourite go-to whisky concoctions:
1. The Whisky Smash: Similar to a mint julep, the whiskey smash is a favourite amongst whisky newcomers who need to ease their way into the spirit in a slightly more palatable fashion. This basic smash cocktail is made by muddling lime, cucumber and mint together in the bottom of a short glass. Fill with ice, simple syrup and two shots of your chosen whisky (we recommend the Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whiskey for its essence of vanilla and honey sweetness to perfectly compliment the fresh aromas of this whisky smash cocktail). Top it off with a dash of lemonade and you’ve got yourself a winner.
2. Whisky Sour: Classic, sophisticated, edgy, delicious… We could dream about this cocktail for hours on end. The whisky sour is traditionally made with just whisky, lemon juice and sugar, but if you want to add a little extra flair to your drink mix it up with an egg white. This will add a dimension of creaminess and frothiness that really takes it to another level. So, In a shaker add ice, lemon juice, simple syrup, egg white and two shots of whiske (we recommend Jameson Black Barrel Whiskey for its spicy, peppery finish to offset the sweetness of this cocktail). Strain into an ice filled glass and top with a dash of angostura bitters and a maraschino cherry.
Whether you want to go large and host a lavish house party, enjoy a simple tipple with nan or partake in Dave’s online whiskey tasting - at its heart, World Whiskey Day is about getting together with friends and family to enjoy one of life’s great pleasures. So, mark your calendars and set your alarms, because this is an event you don't want to miss.
